What will you experience at Wishes for the Sky on Earth Day?
Bring a windchime to add to House to Touch the Wind. It's a large temporary bamboo sculpture with hundreds of wind chimes lent to us for the event. Go in and play the chimes. The sound you make becomes the musical backdrop for the flying of the kites. When its time to go home, take your chime with you
Enter the Wishmaking Pavilion. In this contemplative space you encounter beautiful earth-inspired poetry and receive a loaned kite from an elder to write your Earth Day wish. What wish will you make?
After writing your wish and your kite is ready, go and fly your wish-kite on the Great Lawn. Our kites are in the shape of birds and add 15 shades of blue to the sky. Together we make a big, blue, flock of birds in the air! Return the kite when you are done so someone else can share your wishes with their own.
Stand by the Mississippi River, and make Promises to the Earth. Pledge to improve your earth-affecting behavior. Record your promise, and hear it mixed instantly with the voices of many others making similar promises.
The first wish-kite is given to the first baby born that day in St. Paul. The last wish-kite represents all of our wishes and will be lifted with drums, flute and the ringing of church bells.
Your participation makes the Earth Day work of art.
